Archeological Tours

In the valley of  Oaxaca you will find no less than 7 archeological zones of the Zapotec people who controlled this region from around 500 BC-1000 AD. The first site to be constructed is the most notable and largest, Monte Alban which reined for close to 1,500 years. When Monte Alban finally collapsed starting around 900 AD these other site sprung up being led by most likely the elites of Monte Alban. Close by, and part of the Monte Alban extensive complex is the newly excavated zone of Atzompa. The next largest are Mitla and Yagul with Lambityeco, Dainzú and Zaachila comparatively the smallest in size of the above sites are just as important and interesting and shouldn't be missed.
